With the announcement of A Thursday, the film has been linked to Naseeruddin Shah's 2008 superhit film A Wednesday. If you notice, there are deep similarities between the two even though there is no connection. In both the films, troubled by the system, a common man decides to take the system into his own hands so that it can be improved. He can be made responsible. Like A Wednesday, A Thursday also touches on a deeply relevant issue, although the film may not be as effective as A Wednesday, but this sensitive film definitely keeps you hooked till the end.
Talking about the story of the film, Naina (Yami Gautam) who is a play school teacher by profession. She is suddenly back from a three-week vacation and has joined her playschool. 16 children study in this school. His parents have come to drop him in school. Naina meets everyone very lovingly. She plans a child Niharika's pre-birthday celebration in a play school. Suddenly Naina's expressions start changing, it is understood that this Thursday is not going to be a normal Thursday. She takes out a gun and calls the police station that she has taken 16 children, 1 helper and a driver hostage. He has some demands.
With every passing time, a child will have to lose his life if his demands are not met. A cat and mouse game ensues between Naina and the police. In which later the Prime Minister of India (Dimple Kapadia) also has to attend. Along with why and how, why is Neha playing with the lives of 16 innocent children. The answer to all these questions also gives the next film. which you have to see.
Initially, the film looks like a thriller hostess drama in which a mentally ill woman is taking this step, but as the story unfolds layer by layer, the film brings to the fore the biggest leprosy of the society. The film finally figures out that eight women have been raped by the time you've seen this film. Overall, the film not only shakes but also talks about the adoption of the death penalty law for rapists.
Talking about the flaws in the script of the film, the cinematic liberty has been taken fiercely in the film. The way a big post like Prime Minister has been easily added to the story. That thing sounds unbelievable. How did Naina do all this alone? If it was shown about the preparations in the back story then the film could have become effective. Along with this, questions have been raised on the media once again in this film. which is bitter. Is media meant to be a circus of TRP?
Talking about acting, Yami has given the best performance of her career. The way she becomes innocent one moment and dangerous at the next. His expressions are amazing. Atul Kulkarni as always impresses with his presence. Neha Dhupia and Dimple Kapadia have played their part in a powerful manner on screen. Maya Sarayo had nothing special to do in the film.
Talking about other aspects of the film, background music is an important character of a thriller film, but this film has remained less. On the technical side, the closeup shots of slow motion seem childish. The dialogues of the film have become good. A little work was needed on the editing of the film. Overall, despite some flaws, this female-oriented film keeps you hooked till the end. Makes you think.
