The price of vegetarian plate in India increased by 34 percent in July compared to June. Crisil has reported this in the Monthly Indicator of its food plate cost released on Monday. According to Crisil's report, the biggest reason behind this increase is the increased price of tomatoes. Tomato inflation accounts for 25 percent of the reasons. The price of tomatoes increased from Rs 33 per kg in June to 233 per cent in July to Rs 110 per kg.
Crisil has stated in his report that this is the third time in a row that the price of vegetarian plate has increased progressively. This is the first time in 2023-24 that the price of the plate has increased from year to year. At the same time, the price of non-vegetarian plate has also increased but it has been only 13 percent faster. Vegetarian plate includes bread, vegetables ( potatoes, onions and tomatoes ), rice, lentils, yogurt and lettuce. At the same time, broiler chicken is included instead of lentils for non-vegetarian plate.

- Broiler Chicken: 3-5% Decreased

In this way the average cost of the plate was prepared
Crisil calculates the average cost of preparing the plate at home based on prices prevailing in North, South, East and West India. Monthly changes affect the expenses of the common man. Crisil's data also reveals materials including grains, pulses, broilers, vegetables, spices, edible oils and kitchen gas, which change the price of the plate.
Increased prices of chili and cumin were less affected
Crisil reported in his report that prices of chili and cumin also rose. Their prices rose 69 percent and 16 percent sequentially in July. However, given the low amount of these materials used in the plate, their cost contribution remains lower than some vegetable crops.
Slow-increased non-vegetarian plate price
According to Crisil's indicators, the price of non-vegetarian plate has risen at a slow pace as the price of broilers i.e. chicken has fallen by three to five percent in July. Broiler chicken accounts for more than 50% of the cost of non-vegetarian plate.
