Why does this happen?

Rice is rich in carbohydrates, whenever you eat carbs, they get converted into glucose, and glucose is needed. Once insulin rises, it prompts the brain to release the essential fatty acid tryptophan, which leads to an increase in melatonin and serotonin, which are calming hormones, and these induce sleep.

How to avoid falling asleep after a meal

According to experts, you should take a small mile and you can divide the mile into several parts. The shorter the meal, the lesser the intake of carbs. This will make you sleep more but if you keep your carb intake low then you will also get less sleep


After eating rice, you can drink green tea to avoid sleep. Green tea will first speed up the metabolism and will digest the rice quickly. After that, it will detoxify the body and during this time it will hinder the process of melatonin and serotonin. This will not make you sleepy. 


If you always feel sleepy after eating rice, then instead of eating rice, you can eat some other recipes made from it. Such as dosa, idli, and khichdi, etc. These will be light on the stomach and will be easily digested. Also, after eating them, you will not even sleep. 


Eat such things in which the amount of carbs is less. Even if you are consuming carbs, then divide them into many things like vegetables and raita, etc., also give place in your meal so that you can have a balanced diet. This will also help you get less sleep. Keep only 25% carbs in the diet.
